  • STEM “Paper Structure Challenge”

    STEM Engineering “Paper Structure Challenge”

    Given 6 pieces of paper and a strip of tape, build a structure that will hold the most books before collapsing.  Watch these students compete for the championship, and see all the creative solutions to this design challenge shown at the end of the video.

    STEM Engineering Students continue to build their problem-solving skills and it’s OK to have a little fun in the process!

    As part of the "National GEARUP Week" activities, Westside Staff wore shirts and colors of the colleges they attended.  The focus was on getting students to think about being "College and Career Ready" by following the example of their teachers, mentors, and support personnel.

  • FLU Vaccination FREE for All Students

    A consent form for free FLU vaccinations will be sent home with students.  Parents/Guardians are asked to sign the form if they desire for their student to receive a free FLU vaccination.  Health Department clinicians will be at Westside on October 10 to administer the vaccinations.  We encourage all students to take advantage of this program and protect themselves for the upcoming flu season.

  • Teacher of the Month

    Ms. Ashleigh Lincoln of Westside’s Social Studies Department is the September 2016 Teacher of the Month! She is an awesome teacher and a true educational professional. Ms. Lincoln is one of our top classroom managers at WHS and demonstrates the growth mindset of a “Lifelong Learner.” She is exemplary in meeting deadlines and conducts herself as a professional at all times.   • Dress for Success

    Dress to Impress

    Starting this Fall each Monday and Wednesday at WHS, students will Dress for Success >< Dress to Impress. This is a requirement for all students who are a part of Athletics, Beta, DECA, FBLA, TSA, National Honor Society, Student Council, Yearbook, Academic Team, Band, Drill Team, Drama, Math Team, SAAB, and Mod Squad. We want ALL students to Dress to Impress as well! Higher expectations for our students!

  • Westside Continues as "AP STEM Honor School"

    Westside maintains the STEM focus and continues for another year on the list of "AP STEM Honor Schools" as announced this week by State School Superintendent Richard Woods. "AP STEM Honor School" recognition requires students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses.

    Through their hard work and focus on success during the 2015-2016 school year, the Westside High School Beta Club has been named a National Beta School of Merit!  Throughout the year these dedicated student leaders have exemplified commitment to community service and academic excellence.  Special commendation to BETA Club sponsors Mr. Dominique Nichols and Ms. Janita Henley.

    Westside High School Faculty is pleased to present our selection for 2016-17 Teacher of the Year:

    Mr. Dominique V. Nichols

     Dominique V. Nichols

    This exemplary educator is a former Westside student who has returned to develop his career as a professional educator.  His academic portfolio includes a Bachelor of Arts in English from Fort Valley State University, followed by a Master of Arts in Teaching at Georgia College and State University.

    His personal leadership and motivational skills have quickly led him to Language Arts Department Chair, Westside’s Leadership Team, as well as organizational and leadership responsibility for many special programs at Westside.  Mr. Nichols maintains high personal standards, as well as high academic standards for his students, as he states “I believe in the capabilities of ALL students and I am persuaded that ALL students can learn.”
