The Holiday season is a time when the WHS Beta Club really kicks into high gear in community service! Pictured are more than 200 hand-made Holiday Cards for the elderly and shut-ins in the community. Given a box of straws and a hot glue gun, Engineering teams had to design and build a roller coaster with at least two 90 degree turns, and at least two 180 degree turns. Each team came up with different design solutions that demonstrated creative thinking and problem-solving skills!
Appling Middle School 8th graders learn about Westside’s Pre-Engineering Magnet and Flex Mod Scheduling programs at Appling’s “High School Day” – BCSD High Schools presented information on their Magnet and Career programs to promote student engagement and choice in their upcoming High School pathways.
Westside High TSA at State Leadership Conference on Jekyll Island. Students came back with lots of great ideas to "Make It Happen" with TSA!
GEAR UP Seniors visit open houses for East Georgia State College and Georgia Southern University. Thanks to our GEAR UP Graduation Coach Ms. Ana Hernandez for coordinating these “College Ready” field trips.
GEAR UP students return to the RAFB Museum of Aviation for more “Flight Sim” training. Students perform a pre-flight inspection using the aircraft exhibits for authenticity. Thanks to our STEM Collaborative partner for another engaging field trip!
Westside recognizes TWO exceptional teachers for our Holiday Season Teacher(s) of the Month. Ms. Jocelyn Jones, Language Arts PEC & Ms. Kasey Poulnott Smith, Social Studies. Both of these teachers exemplify a dedication to improvement of their instructional skills, and focus on the details of complete job performance! Congratulations to both of these fine educators for their professional example and consistency in managing successful academic environments.
Parents and Guardians >> Please remember that Parent Portal is available for you to check your student's grades and attendance on a computer, tablet, or smartphone. If you have already signed up and received your login information, please make use of this valuable tool to stay connected with your student's progress in school. If you have not already signed up, Federal privacy laws require that you sign a form at the school office and present a picture ID to complete the process. One login works for ALL your students for as long as they are enrolled in Bibb County schools.
Parents and Guardians are asked to take a brief survey that will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous, and are submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for review.
The survey can be completed using a personal computer, smartphone, or tablet. Those without internet access can come by Westside High during normal school hours and a computer will be provided to take the brief survey.

Starting this Fall each Monday and Wednesday at WHS, students will Dress for Success >< Dress to Impress. This is a requirement for all students who are a part of Athletics, Beta, DECA, FBLA, TSA, National Honor Society, Student Council, Yearbook, Academic Team, Band, Drill Team, Drama, Math Team, SAAB, and Mod Squad. We want ALL students to Dress to Impress as well! Higher expectations for our students!

Westside maintains the STEM focus and continues for another year on the list of "AP STEM Honor Schools" as announced this week by State School Superintendent Richard Woods. "AP STEM Honor School" recognition requires students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses.

Teacher of the Year 2016-17
This exemplary educator is a former Westside student who has returned to develop his career as a professional educator. His academic portfolio includes a Bachelor of Arts in English from Fort Valley State University, followed by a Master of Arts in Teaching at Georgia College and State University.
His personal leadership and motivational skills have quickly led him to Language Arts Department Chair, Westside’s Leadership Team, as well as organizational and leadership responsibility for many special programs at Westside. Mr. Nichols maintains high personal standards, as well as high academic standards for his students, as he states “I believe in the capabilities of ALL students and I am persuaded that ALL students can learn.”
Congratulations to Westside’s STAR Student 2015-16, Jaron Jackson. Jaron chose Ms. Rosa Fossett-Gilbert, his middle school science and math teacher, as his STAR Teacher.
