Social Studies students researched the history of political parties and election processes, followed by participation in “Mock Vote” elections. Electronic voting and results tabulation for analysis was done via electronic voting system set up in the Media Center.
Selected Westside candidates for graduation attended “Operation Graduation” for motivation and special focus on completing course requirements for a timely graduation this spring. Guest speaker Mr. Marcus Early from Central GA Technical College brought invigorating words of encouragement and support. This event was coordinated by GEARUP Graduation Advisor Ms. Ana Hernandez, Graduation Coach Ms. Natasha Eppinger, and School Counselors Ms. Cathy Denson and Ms. Taneka Howard.

Parents and Guardians are asked to take a brief survey that will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous, and are submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for review.
The survey can be completed using a personal computer, smartphone, or tablet. Those without internet access can come by Westside High during normal school hours and a computer will be provided to take the brief survey.

Congratulations to Mr. Dominique Nichols, who was honored as Bibb County School District Teacher of the Year for 2016-17! A well-deserved honor for a most humble and gracious educator, who is dedicated to serving the educational needs of ALL students!
Ms. Kaitlin Drozd is Westside’s October 2016 Teacher of the Month. She is an effectual Acceleration/SCI teacher and is a true team player. Ms. Drozd is new to our school, but has proven to be dedicated to educating ALL students. She is always willing to help and support school activities. Students grow academically under her expertise and classroom structure. She will be participating in our STEAM curriculum, and joining Westside’s school leadership initiatives. Congratulations on a job well done!
Starting this Fall each Monday and Wednesday at WHS, students will Dress for Success >< Dress to Impress. This is a requirement for all students who are a part of Athletics, Beta, DECA, FBLA, TSA, National Honor Society, Student Council, Yearbook, Academic Team, Band, Drill Team, Drama, Math Team, SAAB, and Mod Squad. We want ALL students to Dress to Impress as well! Higher expectations for our students!

Westside maintains the STEM focus and continues for another year on the list of "AP STEM Honor Schools" as announced this week by State School Superintendent Richard Woods. "AP STEM Honor School" recognition requires students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses.

Teacher of the Year 2016-17
This exemplary educator is a former Westside student who has returned to develop his career as a professional educator. His academic portfolio includes a Bachelor of Arts in English from Fort Valley State University, followed by a Master of Arts in Teaching at Georgia College and State University.
His personal leadership and motivational skills have quickly led him to Language Arts Department Chair, Westside’s Leadership Team, as well as organizational and leadership responsibility for many special programs at Westside. Mr. Nichols maintains high personal standards, as well as high academic standards for his students, as he states “I believe in the capabilities of ALL students and I am persuaded that ALL students can learn.”
Congratulations to Westside’s STAR Student 2015-16, Jaron Jackson. Jaron chose Ms. Rosa Fossett-Gilbert, his middle school science and math teacher, as his STAR Teacher.
