Hello Canes!

There areonly 2 days left in the school year for underclassmen, and Tuesday, May 21^stis the last day of school. Make sure you check your child’s attendance, becausestudents will not receive credit for any class for which they have 6 or moreunexcused absences in a class.

The mediaspecialists are continuing to collect the tablets issued to students. Make sureyour child brings his/her tablet to school this week for the tablet collection.Students that do not return their tablet will have the cost of the tablet addedto their debt list. Even if the tablet is broken, students need to return thetablet so that the cost will not be added to their debt list.

Informationregarding our summer school programs is now available, and students can get anapplication from the front office. The summer programs will be Monday throughThursday from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., and breakfast, lunch, andtransportation are provided. The programs are as follows:

· Congratulationsto the Girl’s Track Team for placing 3^rd in the State!!! The TrackTeam Banquet will be held Tuesday night in the cafeteria.

Club andOrganization News:

· Therewill be a meeting with sophomores on Monday during supervision to explain howthey can participate in Dual Enrollment next school year.

· Mondayis the Chorus Awards Banquet at Porterfield Baptist Church. The dinner willbegin at 6:00 p.m., and awards will be given out at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for thedinner are $10.00.

· Therewill be a School Council Meeting Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.

· Graduationrehearsal for all graduating seniors will be held on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. atthe Macon Centreplex. Participation in rehearsal is mandatory for students toparticipate in the graduation ceremony on Saturday.

· RutlandHigh School Graduation will be on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at the MaconCentreplex. Seniors must arrive in proper dress with their cap and gown by 8:00a.m. All guests must have a ticket in order to attend the graduation ceremony.

Tuesday - Friday,we have our Storm Watch After-School Program from 3:00-5:00 p.m. only for thoseSeniors that need to do Attendance Recovery and/or work on completing theire2020 class or work for any other class in order to graduate.

Monday andTuesday, May 27 and 28, the system and school will be closed.

Final reportcards for all students will be mailed home on Friday, May 31^st. Studentsthat owe a debt will not receive their report cards until the debt is paid infull.

· BibbCounty is hosting an Advanced Placement Summer Academy June 3-6 and June 10-13at Central High School. The program is open to all Rising 9^th, 10^th,11^th, and 12^th Bibb County students that are registeredfor an AP class for the 2013-2014 school year, and there is no cost forstudents to attend this program. The registration forms for the summer academy aredue Wednesday, May 1^st.

Monday through Thursday of this week, the Georgia High School Graduation test will be administered to those students that need to pass the test for graduation. The English/Language Arts test will be administered on Monday, the Social Studies test will be administered on Tuesday, the Math test will be administered on Wednesday, the Science test will be administered on Thursday, and Friday will be for make-up testing. It is important that students are at school on time each day for testing.

Wednesday, all students will receive their 9 Weeks Progress Reports. Please review your child’s progress report carefully, and contact your child’s teacher with any questions or to schedule a conference.

Athletic News:

· The Canes Soccer Teams play against Jones County at the Sports Complex. The girls play at 5:30 p.m., and the boys play at 7:30 p.m.

· The Canes Varsity Baseball Team has a game on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at Rutland against West Laurens, and they have a game on Friday against Westside at 4:00 p.m. at Westside. The JV Baseball Team has a game on Monday at 4:00 p.m. at Rutland against Perry, and they have a game on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Rutland against Crawford County.

Hello Canes!

Monday through Thursday of this week, students that qualify will take the End of Course Test re-tests.

Tuesday, there is a School Council Meeting at 4:00 p.m. for all School Council members.

There is no school for students on Friday, because Friday is a Professional Development Day for Bibb County staff.

Athletic News:

· The soccer teams have been on a winning streak, and Tuesday, the Varsity Soccer Teams have games against Jackson at the Sports Complex. The girls play at 5:30 p.m., and the boys play at 7:30 p.m. Friday, the teams play against Howard at the Sports Complex. The girls play at 5:30 p.m., and the boys play at 7:30 p.m.

· The Canes baseball teams are doing great!! Tuesday, the Canes Varsity Baseball Team has a game at 5:00 p.m. against Veterans at Rutland, and on Wednesday the Varsity Team plays against Warner Robins at 5:00 p.m. at Rutland. Friday, the Varsity Team plays at 6:30 p.m. against Perry at Perry. Thursday, the JV Baseball Team has a game at 5:00 p.m. against Peach County in Peach County, and Friday, the JV Baseball Team plays at 4:00 p.m. at Perry High School.

· Saturday, the track team will participate in the Morehouse Invitational at 9:00 a.m.

Club and Organization News:

· Monday and Tuesday, Chorus students will participate in Large Group Performance Evaluations in Warner Robins.

· Tuesday, the First Priority Club will meet in Room 16 at 7:00 a.m.

· Thursday through Saturday, the FCCLA State Leadership Meeting will be held in Athens.

· Friday and Saturday, the FBLA State Leadership Conference will be held in Athens.

· Saturday, the Junior-Senior Prom will be held from 7:00-11:00 p.m. at the Macon City Auditorium, and Senior Walk-Out will be held at 8:00 p.m.

Tuesday - Thursday, we have our Storm Watch After-School Program from 3:00-5:00 p.m., and our Saturday School program will be held on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Transportation is provided to all of our Storm Watch Programs. These programs are for credit recovery, attendance and tardy recovery, make-up work, tutoring, remediation, and enrichment. Students that are failing due to grades and/or attendance or students that need extra help are encouraged to attend our Storm Watch Programs. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, students that are taking Biology, Math 2, U.S. History, and Economics will take the OAS Benchmark exams.

Athletic News:

· We are very proud of our Canes Boys’ Basketball Team and Coaches and the great job they did in the state play-offs. The fan support at the games was awesome, and we would like to thank everyone that came out to support the Canes!!!

· We are also very proud of our Wrestling Team! One of our wrestlers, C.J. Kleckley, finished 5^th in the State in his weight class!

· Thursday, the Varsity Soccer Teams have games against Strong Rock Christian School at Locust Grove. The girls will play at 5:30 p.m., and the boys will play at 7:30 p.m. On Friday, the Varsity Soccer teams play against Baldwin in Milledgeville. · Monday, the Chorus Spring Concert will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Porterfield Baptist Church.

· Tuesday, the First Priority Club will meet in Room 16 at 7:00 a.m.

· FBLA will have its monthly meeting after school on Tuesday.

· Friday is the last day for students to register to take the ACT, and the SAT is being given on Saturday. For more information on these tests, contact your child’s counselor.

Wednesday we will administer the make-up GA High School Writing Test (GHSWT) for students that need to pass the test for graduation.

Athletic News:

· Congratulations to the Hurricanes Boys Basketball Team!! The boys defeated Monroe Saturday night and they will continue their quest for a State Championship!!!! The Canes will play in the next round of the State Play-Offs on Wednesday. The game will be at 6:30 p.m. against Statesboro, and it will be played at Rutland. This will be a “Black-Out” game, and we are asking everyone to wear a black Canes shirt to the game. We hope to see all of you at the game!!!

· The Varsity Soccer games for Monday were canceled due to the weather, and they have been rescheduled for Tuesday; therefore, Tuesday, the Varsity Soccer teams have games against Perry in Perry.

· The JV Baseball game scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled due to weather Wednesday, the Canes Varsity Baseball Team has a game at 4:00 p.m. against Peach County at Rutland. On Saturday, the JV Baseball team has a game against Central at 10:00 a.m. at Rutland and the Varsity team plays a game against Central at 1:00 p.m. at Rutland.

· The CTAE Student of the Year Award’s Ceremony will be held Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Central High School auditorium.

Hello Canes!

Due to the problems with Infinite Campus, students will receive their 4 ½ weeks progress reports on Wednesday of this week. Please review your child’s progress report, and contact your child’s teacher with any questions.

Thursday there will be a School Council Meeting for members of the School Council at 4:00 p.m.

Thursday night, we have a PTSA meeting at 5:30 p.m. After the meeting, there will be a presentation regarding Lexile scores, and how these scores are used to improve student achievement. Following the presentation, we will have Parent-Teacher Conference Night from 6:00-7:00 p.m. We hope to see you Thursday night.

Athletic News:

· Congratulations to the Canes Boys Basketball Team – they defeated Westide Friday night and they are the 2-AAAA Basketball Region Champions!!!! Hello Canes!

If you signed up to check your child’s grades on Parent Portal, the system has been experiencing problems with the program. Because of these problems, teachers are not able to input grades into their grade books and parents are not able to access Parent Portal. The system plans to have the problems fixed by Wednesday morning.

Hello Canes!

This past Wednesday, all students received their First Semester Report Cards. Any students that failed a course with a 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, or 69 are eligible to do Credit Repair. Students that complete Credit Repair will receive credit for the course, and they will not have to retake the course. Also, any students that received a 69 in a course due to having 6 or more unexcused absences can do Attendance Repair and receive credit for the course.

Attendance Repair and Credit Repair will be held after school January 15-29 for those students that are eligible. Students need to take advantage of this opportunity so that they do not have to retake a course which could put them behind in credits towards graduation. If you have any questions about Credit Repair or Attendance Repair, please contact your child’s counselor.

Monday and Tuesday students will take the 2^nd Semester Student Growth Learning Objective Pre-Tests. The tests will aid teachers in planning effective lessons so that students will be successful in the class and master the standards.

Students that did not take the End-of-Course Test (EOCT) for one or more of their 1^st Semester classes will take the EOCT this month. Students need to make sure they are prepared to take the EOCT.

There is a School Council Meeting on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. for all members of the Rutland High School Council.

Hello Canes!

All students with non-End of Course Test classes will take final exams in their other classes on Monday and Tuesday. On Monday, students will take final exams during 1^st and 3^rd blocks, and on Tuesday students will take final exams during 2^nd and 4^th blocks.

The last day of school and the last day of 1^st Semester is Thursday, December 20, 2012. Students must have completed all work and tests prior to leaving school on Thursday. Also, any students that have 6 or more unexcused absences must have completed attendance recovery prior to leaving for Winter Break.

Winter Break for students is December 21, 2012 through January 6, 2013. The first day of 2^nd Semester and the day students return to school is Monday, January 7, 2013.

Athletic News:

· The Cross Country Team Banquet is Monday from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

· The Lady Canes Basketball team will compete in the Great Southern Shootout Tournament on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday.

· Thursday, Friday, and Saturday the Boys Basketball team will compete in the Middle Georgia Classic Tournament that will be held at Rutland High School.

· The Canes Wrestling Team has a meet Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at East Hall, and they have a meet against Jones County on Friday. On December 28^th and 29^th, the wrestling team has a meet at LaGrange High School, and on January 5^th, the wrestling team has a meet at Howard High School at 8:00 a.m.

We have only 4 weeks remaining in this semester, and on Wednesday, November 28^th, all students will receive their 13 ½ Week Progress Reports. Please review the reports carefully, and call the school and/or the teacher with any questions. Remember, students only have until the end of this semester, December 20^th, to pull up their grades and get credit for the course. Students will have all new courses 2^nd Semester.

Also, review your child’s attendance, because students that have 6 or more unexcused absences in a class will fail the class. The highest grade a student can make in a class is a 69 if the student has 6 or more unexcused absences in the class.

The End of Course Tests (EOCT) will be given December 4^th – 7^th. End of Course Tests are given in the following courses: 9^th and 11^th grade Language Arts, Coordinate Algebra, Math 2, Biology, Economics, and U.S. History. For students that entered the 9^th grade in 2011 or 2012, the End of Course Tests count 20% of the students’ final grade and for all other students the End of Course Tests count 15% of the students’ final grade.

Athletic News:

· The Canes Basketball teams play against Northside on Tuesday at Rutland. The JV Boys play at 6:00 p.m., and the Varsity Boys play at 7:30 p.m.

· The Canes Wrestling Team has a wrestling meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Monticello High School, and they have a meet on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Meadowcreek High School.

· Thursday, the Lady Canes Softball Banquet will be held in the cafeteria at 7:00 p.m.

· Friday, the Canes Swim Team has a swim meet at 7:00 p.m. at Macon Swim.

Club and Organization News:

Hello Canes!

We are excited about the tablet distribution to our students to use in the classroom. If you have not already gone through the orientation process and signed for your child’s tablet, you can come to school on Tuesday, November 13^th, from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. to get your child’s tablet.

We have only 4 ½ weeks remaining in this semester for students to work on their grades and attendance. Tuesday, November 13^th, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. is Parent-Teacher Conference Night. You can come to school and visit your child’s teachers to check on your child’s grades and attendance. Prior to Parent-Teacher Conference Night, there will be a PTSA Meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. We hope to see you there!

Benchmark exams will be given on Wednesday and Thursday to those students currently enrolled in Math 2 and Biology. The benchmark exams will aid teachers in preparing students for the End of Course Tests that will be given December 4^th – 7^th.

· The Canes Wrestling Team will compete in a wrestling meet on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Rutland and on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. in Crisp County! · Saturday, the Academic Team will participate in the academic team competition at Brookwood High School.

· Saturday the members of FCCLA will participate in the Ronald McDonald’s Helping Hands National Project from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the McDonald’s on Hartley Bridge Road.

Tuesday - Thursday, we have our Storm Watch After-School Program from 3:00-5:00 p.m., and we will have our Holiday School Program on Monday and Tuesday during Thanksgiving Break, November 19-20, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Transportation is provided to all of our Storm Watch Programs. These programs are for credit recovery, attendance and tardy recovery, make-up work, tutoring, remediation, and enrichment. Students that are failing due to grades and/or attendance or students that need some extra help are encouraged to attend our Storm Watch Programs. Hello Canes!

Parents and Guardians, the Bibb County School System is currently going through the accreditation process. A letter was sent home last week with information on completing a survey to aid in this process. The deadline for completing the on-line survey is October 31^st.

Tuesday through Thursday, the GAPSS (Georgia Assessment of Performance of School Standards) Review Team will be at Rutland conducting a review. They will observe in classrooms and they will conduct interviews with staff and students. Upon completion of the review, the school will receive a report that will aid us in our continuous improvement process.

We are excited that we are going to begin the process of distributing tablets to all of our students. A letter was sent home with all students to explain the process, and tablet distribution this week will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. A parent or guardian must accompany the student in order for the student to receive the tablet. Tuesday is for seniors to pick up tablets, Wednesday is for juniors to pick up tablets, and Thursday is for sophomores to pick up tablets. Tablet distribution for freshmen will be the following week on Monday and Tuesday from 3:30-6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, all students will receive their 9 Weeks Progress Reports. Please review the progress report carefully, and contact your child’s counselor or Teacher As Advisor if you have any questions or would like to request a conference. Students that are having difficulty in their classes are encouraged to take advantage of our Storm Watch After-School and Saturday School Programs to get extra help.

Friday, Rutland students will participate in the BESS (Behavior Emotional Screening System) process. Students that do not want to participate can opt out of the screening with a signed parent letter. Please contact the school for further information.

Athletic News:

· Congratulations to the Lady Canes Softball Team! The Lady Canes competed in the second round of the State Play-offs, and they won both games. They will now in the Elite 8 in the state, and they will continue their quest for a state championship on Thursday. The games will be held in Columbus, and they play their first game at 4:15 p.m. against Whitfield. Go Lady Canes!

· Tuesday the Cross Country Team will compete in the Warner Robins Invitational at 4:00 p.m. at Pearl Stephens Elementary School.

· Friday the Varsity Football team has a game at 7:30 p.m. against Howard. The game will be played at the Sports Complex. We hope to see you at the game!

Monday, October 15^th is a professional learning day for all staff; therefore, there is no school for students on Monday, October 15^th.

School Council Elections to elect parents to serve on the School Council will be held Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. We are still looking for parents to serve on the School Council. If you are interested in being on the ballot, please call the school and speak to Christy Gay.

Wednesday, all 10^th grade students will take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT). It is important that all 10^th grade students are present at school on Wednesday to take this exam. Also, on Wednesday, the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) exam will be given to interested Juniors and Seniors.

Athletic News:

· Congratulations to the Lady Canes Softball Team! The Lady Canes competed in the first round of the State Play-offs, and they won both games!! They will now play in the 2^nd Round of the State Play-Offs on Wednesday against Spalding at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Mercer University Softball Field. Go Lady Canes!

· Thursday there is a JV Football game against Westside. The game will be played at 5:00 p.m. at Rutland.

This is Homecoming Week, and there are a lot of exciting activities planned for this week, including the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen during half-time of the football game on Friday.

Wednesday, all Juniors will take the Georgia High School Writing Test. This test is required for graduation; therefore, it is important that all Juniors are at school on Wednesday rested and ready to take this very important test. We will have a special session after school on Tuesday during our after-school program to aid students in passing the writing test. The session will be from 3:10-5:00, and transportation home is provided.

Hello Canes!

Tuesday night we will hold our annual Title I Parent Meeting. The meeting will be at 5:00 p.m. in the Rutland High cafeteria. We hope you will join us to get information on the Title I program and the benefits for your child.

Wednesday, the Governor’s Office for Highway Safety will be at Rutland to conduct demonstrations for students on highway safety and measures they can take to help them be safe drivers.

Junior and Senior Night will be held Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the Rutland cafeteria. All Juniors and Seniors and their parents are invited to attend to get important information regarding the financial aid process, dual enrollment, the Hope Scholarship, and more. Also, representatives from several colleges and universities will be present at the meeting to answer questions and provide information.

Due to the testing last week, the date for progress reports to be distributed to students has changed to Wednesday, September 26. And, Thursday, September 27^th is Parent-Teacher Conference Night from 6:00-7:00 p.m. for parents to visit their child’s teacher to discuss his/her progress. On Parent-Teacher Conference Night from 5:00-6:00 p.m. the PTSA is helping to sponsor the first “Cookout with the Canes” from 5:00-6:00 p.m. We hope you will join us for “Cookout with the Canes” prior to Parent-Teacher Conference Night on September 27^th.

Hello Canes!

Students received the Rutland High Student Handbook last week. Please make sure your child shares the RHS Student Handbook with you so that you are aware of the rules and guidelines. Students also received the Internet Computer Use Policy, and this policy needs to be signed and returned to school so that your child has permission to access to the Internet at school.

This week we will administer the Georgia High School Graduation Make-Up Tests for those Seniors that need to pass this test for graduation. The English/Language Arts test will be given on Monday, the Social Studies test will be given on Tuesday, the Math test will be given on Wednesday, and the Science test will be given on Thursday. If you have any questions regarding the GHSGT, please contact your child’s counselor.

Also this week, students in specified classes will be administered the Student Learning Objective (SLO) Pre-Test. This test is part of the Race to the Top Grant and is required by the Georgia Department of Education. Your child will be given information during supervision on Monday about these tests, and they will be encouraged to bring this information home to share with you. Hello Canes!

We have had a great start to the school year, and we thank you for all of your support. Please remember that class begins at 7:30 a.m., and students must in in their class when the bell rings in order not to be tardy. Students that are tardy to school or class will receive after-school tardy recovery.

If your child needs to leave school early, we must have a note with a parent/guardian signature. You cannot call the school or send an email giving your child permission to sign out early from school. We appreciate your help and cooperation in this matter.

Monday is Picture Day for all Underclassmen and Staff for the yearbook. Students should come to school on Monday prepared to have their pictures taken. Students that wish to purchase a picture package must bring the Lifetouch order with them along with the payment.

Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. we invite all 9^th and 10^th grade students and parents to attend Freshmen and Sophomore Night in the cafeteria. This is a great opportunity for students and parents to gain valuable information on topics such as graduation requirements and career exploration opportunities. It’s time for another school year! TheRutland Staff and I are excited to continue with the implementation of ourStorm Watch Programs and our School for International Studies. As we enter yearthree under the guidelines of the School Improvement Grant, we want you to knowthat your support and involvement at Rutland High is greatly appreciated.

Due to the implementation of the SchoolImprovement Grant, over 40 students were able to recover credits and graduateon time. Also, there were improvements made on the following End of Course Testscores: 9^th Grade Literature,11^th Grade Literature, U.S. History, Math I, and Math II. We arevery proud of our staff and students for their hard work toward making theseimprovements.

This year, the students’ Teachers As Advisorteacher will set up meetings with parents and students for students to pick uptheir schedules, review the students’ transcript and 4-Year Graduation Plan,and receive other important information. The students’ Teachers As Advisorteacher is their supervision teacher. Most students will have the same TAA/supervisionteacher this year as they had last year. If your child did not have a TAA/supervisionteacher last year, you can call the school to find out the name of your child’ssupervision teacher. During these meetings, parking decals will be availablefor $25.00, and lockers may be leased for one year for $5.00 payable by cashonly. Students must bring proof of insurance, a driver’s license, and car tagnumber before a parking decal will be issued. These meetings will be scheduledon Thursday and Friday, August 2^nd and 3^rd, between thehours of 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Some teachers are sending out letters to schedule the meetings, and other teachers are calling parents to set up the meetings. You should receive a letter or a call on or before August 2, 2012.

In addition to the above meetings, OpenHouse for Students and Parents will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. for all grade levels. Weinvite you to come to Rutland to tour the building and meet the teachers.

You can find a basic supply list on the webpage. The dress code for high school is the dress code as outlined in the2012-2013 Student Guidelines for Success, and the BOE Cell Phone/ElectronicDevise Policy will also be followed. Both of these items are posted on the RutlandHigh webpage, and you can also get a copy from your advisement teacher and inthe front office. The dress code and cell phone policy have some changes, somake sure you are aware of both of these policies as you are planning for theupcoming school year.

The first day of school for students is Monday,August 13^th, This year the school times have changed, and studentswill attend school from 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. In order not to betardy to school, students are expected to be at school and in their first classno later than 7:25 a.m. each morning.

Hello Canes!

Tuesday night we will have a Junior Night meeting forparents and students at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. At this event, thefollowing information will be discussed: Dual Enrollment Programs, YouthApprenticeship, Financial Aid, Scholarships, and Graduation Requirements. Also,a representative from Jostens will be present to discuss information aboutSenior Pictures, caps/gowns, etc.

The Canes JV Baseball Team has a game Monday at 4:00 p.m.against Perry. The game will be at Rutland. On Wednesday, the Varsity BaseballTeam has a game against Crawford County at 5:00 p.m. at Crawford County. Friday,the Varsity Baseball Team has a game against Crawford County at 4:00 p.m. atRutland. Saturday, the JV Baseball Team has a game against Central at 11:00a.m., and the Varsity Baseball Team plays against Central at 2:00 p.m. Thegames will be held at Rutland.

The Varsity Soccer Teams have a game Tuesday against PeachCounty at Peach County. The girls play at 5:30 p.m., and the boys play at 7:00p.m. Wednesday, the Varsity Soccer Teams play against Baldwin at the SportsComplex. The girls play at 5:30 p.m., and the boys play at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, the Canes Golf Team plays against Howard atBarrington Hall.

Friday and Saturday, there will be an ROTC Drill Competitionin Dahlonega, GA.

Saturday, the PBIS King and Queen Competition will be heldin the cafeteria from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Club & Field Trip News: First Priority Club will meetTuesday morning at 7:00 a.m.; Thursday, there will be an FBBLA meeting and anFCCLA meeting after school; and Friday the Drama students will perform "ICan Read with My Eyes Shut" at several elementary schools and day carecenters.

Wednesday will be the re-test for the GHSWT (Georgia HighSchool Writing Test). Students that needto take the re-test need to be at school on time and prepared for this veryimportant test.

Hello Canes! We hope you had a very restful break. Eventhough there are only two days of school this week, we have a lot of activitiesthis week.

Be aware that debt letters were mailed out last Friday. Alldebts need to be paid by the end of the school year. If you have any questionsregarding your child's debt, please contact the bookkeeper, Ms. Deborah Scott.

We want to congratulate one of our wrestlers, ImmanuelHenderson, for winning the GHSA Class AAA State Wrestling Title!! We are sovery proud of Immanuel!

We also want to congratulate the Lady Canes Basketball Teamfor taking 2nd Place in the Region Play-Offs! The Lady Canes will play againstMonroe in the 1st Round of the State Play-Offs on Friday at 7:00 p.m., and thegame will be played at Rutland. Come out and support the Lady Canes at thegame!

We also want to congratulate the Canes Varsity Girls SoccerTeam for winning the Lamar Tournament this past weekend. The next game for boththe Boys and Girls Soccer Teams will be on Friday against Jones County. Thegames will be held at the Sports Complex; the girls will play at 5:30 p.m., andthe boys will play at 7:30 p.m.

The Canes Varsity Baseball Team will have a game Friday andSaturday against Lamar County. The games will be held at Lamar County, and the gamewill begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Club & Field Trip News: there is an International Studies meeting after school on Thursday; theDECA State Conference is being held Thursday - Saturday at the Omni in Atlanta;All-State Chorus will be held Thursday - Saturday in Savannah; on Friday theDrama Class will perform "I Can Dream With My Eyes Shut" at severalschools; and on Saturday, the FCCLA 2 Star Regional will be held.

Friday, Josten's will be at Rutland to take ring ordersduring lunch, and Seniors can order and/or make a payment on their cap andgown. Graduation will be here before you know it!

Thursday, we will have our Storm Watch After-School Programfrom 3:00-5:00 p.m.. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. This is forstudents that are working on Credit Recovery, Attendance Recovery, or studentsthat need extra help and tutoring. Hello Canes! The following are the activities for RHS forthe week of February 13, 2012.

Monday through Wednesday the MCROTC Rifle Team will becompeting at Camp Anniston in Alabama. We wish them the best of luck!

Tuesday, the First Priority Club will meet at 7:00 a.m. Alsoon Tuesday, 4 1/2 week Progress Reports will be sent home with all students.Please review your child's Progress Report, sign it, and have your child returnit to his Supervision teacher. If you have questions about your child's report,please contact the school to schedule a conference with your child's teacher.

Tuesday through Saturday, the basketball teams will becompeting in the Region 2-AAA Tournament at Howard High School. Go Canes!

Thursday, Jostens will hold a meeting with the Sophomoreclass during Supervision.

Thursday through Saturday, some of the members of the WrestlingTeam will be competing in the State Meet at the Gwinett Civic Center. Also,Thursday through Saturday, the Varsity Soccer teams will be competing in theLamar Tournament in Barnesville, GA.

This is a reminder that Monday, February 20, 2012, isPresident's Day Holiday, and Tuesday and Wednesday are also holidays fromschool; therefore, there is no school for students Monday through Wednesday,February 20 - 22, 2012.

Tuesday through Thursday, we will have our Storm WatchAfter-School Program from 3:00-5:00 p.m. This is for students that are workingon Credit Recovery, Attendance Recovery, or students that need extra help andtutoring. Hello Canes!

We have a lot of things going on this week, and we hope tosee you at these events.

Monday, a representative from Macon State College will be inthe cafeteria during lunch to give information to students.

Tuesday, the First Priority Club will meet at 7:00 a.m., andthe PBIS King & Queen contestants will have rehearsal at 9:05 duringsupervision. The District 11 Honor Choir will perform at Southside BaptistChurch in Warner Robins, and members of the Jobs for Georgia Graduates willattend the Region Competition at Macon State College.

Tuesday, the basketball teams have a game against Baldwin atRutland. The B-Team Boys play at 4:00 p.m., the Varsity Girl's play at 6:00p.m., and the Varsity Boys play at 7:30 p.m. This will also be Feeder SchoolNight at the basketball game, and students from Skyview Elementary will do aperformance at half time of the Girls and Boys Varsity Games. We hope all of the staff, students, and parents from our feeder schools will join us at the game. Friday is SeniorNight at the basketball game against Mary Persons, and the Seniors will berecognized during the break between the girls and boys games. The Varsity Girlswill play at 6:00 p.m., and the Varsity Boys will play at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, yearbook photos will be taken for all clubs andathletic teams. Thursday, there will be an FCCLA meeting after school.

Friday, the Skills USA students will attend competition atCentral Georgia Technical College. And also on Friday, the Canes Soccer Teamshave their first game at Alcovy High in Covington, Georgia. The girls game willbegin at 5:30 p.m., and the boys will play at 7:30 p.m. following the girls.

Friday is the Strategic Plan Kick-Off Celebration at theCentreplex from 1:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.; therefore, Friday is a half day ofschool for all students. High school students will be dismissed from school at11:00 a.m. Please make sure your child knows if he/she is a car rider or busrider on Friday. We would like for 100 students from Rutland to attend this event with our staff. A letter was sent home with your child last Thursday for your signature.

Saturday, the Canes Wrestling Team will participate in thesectionals against Locust Grove at West Laurens.

On Monday, the Seniors are having the Senior Cook-Out at2:00 p.m. in honor of all Seniors. And, Monday night is Financial Aid Night forall students at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Please plan to attend to receiveimportant information regarding financial aid opportunities for your child.Also, for those Seniors that are planning to attend the Senior Grad Bash, thefirst installment of $65.00 is due Tuesday.

We hope all of you are enjoying your Thanksgiving Break. Students report back to school Monday, 11/28/11, and should be in their first block class by 7:25 a.m.

There are only 3 weeks left in 1st Semester!! End of Course Tests will be given December 6-7, and finals will be given December 15-20. Students need to take advantage of after school and Saturday school tutoring and attendance recovery so that they do not fail any of their classes.

First Priority Club will meet Tuesday at 7:00 a.m. in room 16. All students are welcome to attend.

Tuesday, the Canes Basketball Teams play against Peach County here at Rutland High. The varsity girls play at 6:00 p.m., and the varsity boys play at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Canes play against Central at Central. The B-Teams play at 9:00 a.m., the Varsity Girls play at 12:00 p.m. and the Varsity Boys play at 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday, the Canes Wrestling Team has a meet against First Presbyterian, Lamar, and Jones. The meet will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be held at Rutland. On Saturday, the Canes will participate in the Veteran High Wrestling Tournament at 9:00 a.m. at Veteran's High School.

Friday, the Swim Team has a meet at 10:00 a.m. in Clayton County.

Saturday, the Rutland High Chorus will have a performance at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, the ROTC Drill Team has a Drill Meet at East Coweta.

Our Storm Watch After-School Program is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. for students to work on Credit Recovery, Attendance Recovery, enrichment, and tutoring. Saturday School will be held on December 3, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Tuesday, the Jobs for Georgia Graduates Program will hold their Initiation and Installation Ceremony from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

First Priority Club will meet Tuesday at 7:00 a.m. in room 16. All students are welcome to attend.

Thursday, the Canes Basketball Varsity teams will have a scrimmage game against Jones County at Jones County High School in Gray. The girls will play at 6:00 p.m., and the boys will play at 7:30 p.m. Go Canes!

Thursday is the Marine Corps birthday, and the MCJROTC students will be participating in a field meet on Thursday. Happy Birthday to the Marine Corps!

Thursday and Friday, members of the Future Business Leaders of America club will be attending the Fall Leadership Conference in Athens.

Friday is a Strategic Planning day for all Bibb County Board of Education employees. There will be no school for students, and the school will be closed so that all staff can participate in the Strategic Planning sessions.

This week we will have make-up testing for the GHSGT. Students that have not passed a portion of the test will take the test this week. If you would like more information on the make-up testing, please contact your child's counselor.

Tuesday, the First Priority Club meets at 7:00 a.m. All students are invited to attend.

Thursday, the FCCLA members will have its monthly club meeting. All members should plan on staying after school for this meeting.

Friday, the Varsity Football Team will have its final game of the season at 7:30 p.m. against Veterans at the Sports Complex. This is also Senior Night for the football players, cheerleaders, and band members. We hope to see you at the game. Go Canes!

Saturday, the Varsity Cross Country Boys' Team will complete in the State Meet in Carrollton! We are very excited that our boys will complete at the state level, and we wish them much luck at the meet!

Hello Canes!

We are very excited to announce that Ms. Lisa Thompson is not only Rutland High's Teacher of the Year, but Ms. Thompson is also a finalist for Bibb County Teacher of the Year! We are very proud of Ms. Thompson, and the great work she is doing at Rutland High.

On Tuesday during 4th Block, the drama class will perform their One-Act Production, "Drift", at 1:45. Students can purchase a ticket for $2.00 to see the production.

Also on Tuesday, Jostens will be here with Senior Class orders during lunch, so Seniors, make sure you see Jostens for your orders.

Tuesday night from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. we have Parent-Teacher Conference Night at Rutland High School. Students received their 9 Weeks Progress Reports last week, and we hope you will take this opportunity to come and speak to your child's teachers regarding his/her progress. Also, please review your child's absences and tardies on the progress report. Students that have over 5 unexcused absences in a class will not receive credit for the class. Students can stay after school in our Storm Watch Program or come on Saturday to make up unexcused absences. Remember, all unexcused absences for the month of October have to be made up by October 31, 2011.

Tuesday night the Mentor's Project invites you to attend the Drug Awareness Program at 6:00 p.m. at Miller Middle School. The keynote speakers will be Eric Chaplain, Elaine Brockman, and Neil Halvorson.

The retakes for the GHSGT will be October 31 - November 4, 2011. For those students that need extra help to pass the Social Studies portion of the test, we have remediation classes on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. We will also hold a class on Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. We invite all students to take advantage of this opportunity.

We want to congratulate our football team on their victory over Howard High School last Thursday! The Canes beat the Huskies 31 - 21! The football team has a game Thursday night, October 27, 2011, against Baldwin High School at 7:00 p.m. at the Sports Complex. We hope all of you will come out and support our Canes Football Team!

On Thursday, the Region Cross Country Championship will be held in Forsyth. Good luck to all of the students that will be participating in the meet!

Thursday and Friday of this week, DECA students will be participating in the Fall Leadership Conference in Atlanta.

On Friday, Mr. Moultrie's Engineering and Web Design Class will attend the STEM Festival in Houston County.

Please remember that students that need tutoring can stay after school in our Storm Watch program on Wednesday and Thursday every week from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Students can also come to our Saturday Program to work on Credit Recovery, Attendance Recovery, and receiving tutoring. The Saturday Program is on desinated Saturdays and it is from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Transportation is provided for all Storm Watch programs.

Hello Canes! We had a great Homecoming Week, and school spirit was great all week and at the game Friday night!

We hope you will come out Monday to see the Chorus Variety Show. Students will be performing musical selections of their choice, and Sticky Fingers is providing dinner to those that purchased a ticket. The show will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Nine Weeks Progress Reports will be sent home with all students on Tuesday. Please review your child's report, sign it, and have your child return the report to his/her teacher. Parent-Teacher Conference night has been changed to Tuesday, October 25th, from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. If you would like a more in depth conference with your child's teachers, please contact a counselor to schedule a conference.

Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. the Varsity Cross Country Team has a meet at Mary Persons in Forsyth. Run Canes!

On Thursday, the Varsity Football Team will have a game at 7:00 p.m. against the Howard Huskies at Henderson Stadium. Go Canes!

Friday, there will be a Blood Drive in the gym. We invite you to come and join the Canes in supporting this very worthy cause.

Friday is also Hat Day to support the United Way Campaign. You can pay a $1.00 to wear your favorite hat to school on Friday.

Hello Canes! This week is Homecoming Week, and there are many homecoming activities happening all week.

Tuesday is Tacky Day, and students and staff can come dressed in their tackiest clothes. Wednesday is Blast from the Past and all are encouraged to dress in clothes from their favorite decade. Will you be in a hoop skirt or bell bottoms? Thursday is Character Day, and you should dress as your favorite character from a book, movie, TV show, etc. Friday is Spirit Day, and we expect to see all Canes decked out in orange and green from head to toe!

During the week, students will compete in the Door Contest, the Hall Contest, and the Panther Hunt. The Powder Puff game between Juniors and Seniors will be Thursday afternoon from 4:00-5:00. Friday night is the homecoming game against the Perry Panthers, and the homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at half-time. The Canes will be playing the Panthers at 7:30 at the Sports Complex. We hope to see all of you at the game!

Wednesday morning all 10th grade students will take the PSAT to help prepare them to take the SAT. Students should be on time for school and ready to take this test Wednesday morning.

Also on Wednesday, a Josten's representative will be on campus to take orders from Seniors during lunch. And, Thursday, select Seniors will participate in the Career Fest at the Macon Centreplex.

Our Storm Watch After-School Program is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:00-5:00 for students to work on Credit Recovery, Attendance Recovery, enrichment, and tutoring. Hello Canes! It is already October, and there are a plethora of activities happening at Rutland High School.

The Storm Watch Saturday Program will be this Saturday, October 1st, and students can come to get tutoring in any subject, work on Credit Recovery, and work on Attendance Recovery. Students need to take advantage of this opportunity so that they are successful!

Our After-School Storm Watch Program is on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Students can work on Credit Recovery, Attendance Recovery, and receive tutoring. Contact your child's

counselor for information on our Storm Watch Programs.

On Monday, the chorus department will host its Tri-Music Induction Ceremony in the cafeteria at 6:00 p.m.

Tuesday - Thursday, the Lady Canes Softball Team will be competing in the Region Tournament at Southern Pines in Dublin. Come and support your Lady Canes!

The Varsity Cross Country Team has a meet on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in Forsyth. On Saturday, October 8th, the Cross Country Team will compete in the Golden Eagle Invitational at 8:30 a.m. in Griffin. Go Canes!

Thursday, Jostens will hold a meeting with all Seniors during Supervision from 9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. All Seniors will want to make sure they attend this very informational meeting.

Friday will be Hat Day to raise money for the United Way Organization. Students and staff can pay $1.00 to wear a hat on Friday to raise money to support the United Way program.

Friday night, the Varsity Football Team has a game at 7:30 p.m. at Mary Persons. Let's go Canes!

Monday, October 10th, is a system strategic planning day for all Bibb County employees, and there is no school for students. Enjoy your day of rest!

Hello Rutland Hurricanes, it was good to see so many of you at the various events that occurred last week. We hope to see you this week at the events happening below.

The automated phone calling system has been down; therefore, you have not been receiving phone calls. As soon as the system is operable, the phone calls will resume.

Monday is Chorus Social Game Night. You can come out and see a variety of performances by our Choral students.

Tuesday is a very important testing day for all Juniors and other students that have to pass the Georgia High School Writing Test (GHSWT) for graduation. These students need to come to school on Tuesday prepared to take the GHSWT. The test will begin promptly at 7:45 a.m.

Tuesday is Senior Night at the Lady Canes softball game against Veterans High School. The games will be held at Rutland, and the JV Team plays at 3:30 p.m., we will then have a special ceremony for all seniors, and the Varsity Team plays following the ceremony. We hope you will all come to see our Seniors being honored. On Thursday, the Lady Canes have a make-up game against Perry in Perry.

Thursday at 5:00 p.m., the JV Football Team has a game against Howard at Howard. There is no football game on Friday night; Friday is an open night for the Varsity Football Team.

Friday we will have Jay's Hat for Hope Day to support the Jay's Hope Foundation that raises money to support childhood patients of cancer. Students and staff can pay $1.00 to wear a hat on Friday to raise money for this very worthy cause.

Hello Hurricanes! What a great week we had at school last week. Congratulations to the Freshmen for winning the Spirit Stick at the Pep Rally!

Today is make-up picture day. All staff and underclassmen that have not had their picture taken, will have their picture taken today.

Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. is Senior Night for all Seniors and their parents. The meeting will be held in the cafeteria. Students and parents can get information about financial aid, the college application process, the HOPE Scholarship program, and GACollege 411. Representatives from several middle Georgia colleges will also be in attendance. We hope to see all Seniors and their parents at this meeting.

Tuesday, the Lady Canes Softball Team has a game against Central at 4:00 p.m. at Rutland. Wednesday, the softball team has a game against Howard at Rutland. The JV Team will play at 3:30 p.m. and the Varsity will play at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, the softball team plays Peach County in Ft. Valley. The JV Team plays at 4:45 p.m., and the Varsity Team plays at 6:00 p.m. Go Lady Canes!

This is a series of workshops for parents to aid them in helping their high school child be successful and graduate in four years from high school. We had a wonderful Tribute to the 10th Anniversary of 9-11 today. The social studies teachers and students did a wonderful job of paying tribute to those that served and lost their lives during this tragedy.

For the upcoming week, we have a lot of exciting things happening, and we hope to see you at these events.

The re-takes for the GHSGT in Math, English, Science, and Social Studies will be Monday through Friday. This is for all students that have not passed one or more sections of the GHSGT. The English/Language Arts test will be given on Monday, Social Studies on Tuesday, Math on Wednesday, and Science on Thursday. It is important that students are at school and on time every day for testing. For more information on this testing, please contact your child's counselor.

To help prepare students for the GHSGT and for the upcoming GHSWT, we have Saturday School at Rutland on Saturday, 9-10-11, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. We also have Saturday School on Saturday, 9-17-11, for students to get tutoring, Credit Recovery, Attendance Recovery, and for preparation for the GHSWT. This is open to all Rutland High School students, and transportation is provided. For more information, please contact your child's counselor.

Monday, there will be a Chorus Concert at 7:00 p.m. at Porterfield Baptist Church. The Rutland High Choirs led by Mr. Charles Hernandez are exceptional, and they are a joy to hear perform.

On Tuesday, we have a softball game at 4:00 p.m. at Rutland High against Westside. On Thursday, the Lady Canes softball team has a game against Perry High. The games will be played at Perry. The JV team will play at 4:00 p.m. and the Varsity team will play at 6:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, all students will be issued their 4 1/2 Weeks Progress Report. Please make sure you review your child's progress report, and sign it for your child to return to his/her supervision teacher.

On Tuesday, the Varsity Cross Country team will compete in the Warner Robins Invitational at 4:00 p.m. in Warner Robins. On Saturday, the Cross Country team will compete in the Jones County Invitational in Gray at 9:00 a.m.

Thursday, the JV Football Team has a game against Westside. The game will be at 5:00 p.m. at Westside. And on Friday, the Varsity Football Team has a game against Westside. The game will be at 7:30 p.m. at Henderson Stadium.

This is a reminder that Monday, September 19, 2011, is a Planning Day for staff, and there is no school for students.

This week was a great week at Rutland High!

When you visit Rutland, we want to make sure you are aware that the blinking red light next to the Suntrust Bank is now a working red light. Keep this in mind if you use this road to enter or exit the school.

Monday is Labor Day Holiday; therefore, there is no school for students. We hope you have a great three day holiday!

Tuesday, Dr. Dallemand, Superintendent, will be visiting Rutland High School with his Cabinet Members. We look forward to their visit to Canes Country!

Wednesday, the Lady Canes softball team has a game in Milledgeville against GA Military College. The JV team plays at at 4:30 p.m., and the Varsity team plays at 6:00 p.m.

On Thursday, the Lady Canes Varsity team has a game in Milledgeville at 5:30 p.m. against Baldwin High School.

On Thursday, the JV fooball team has a game against Northeast at 5:00 p.m. at Northeast.

On Friday, the Canes Varsity football team has a game against Central High School at 7:30 p.m. at Henderson Stadium.

On Friday, we will be having a 10th Anniversary of September 11th Tribute Program from 8:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. The social studies' department is hosting this very special event for our students and staff.

Saturday, we have our Storm Watch Saturday Program at Rutland from 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. for students that need to work on Credit Recovery and/or Attendance Recovery. Students can also get remediation for the GHSGT which will be given the week of September 12-16, 2011. Transportation is provided for Saturday School. If you have any questions regarding any of our Storm Watch Programs, please contact the front office or your child's counselor.

Also on Saturday, the Bibb County 2nd Annual Career Technical Student Organization Leadership Rally is being held from 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Howard High School. Many of our students will participate in this rally.

There are a lot of things happening this week at Rutland High and in the district. On Monday, the district will host an Supplemental Education Service meeting on free tutoring from 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. in the Central High Gym, and they are hosting "Science is Important Information Night" from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at Central High School. All parents and students are welcome to attend these meetings.

Tuesday is Parent-Teacher Conference Night at Rutland High from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Parents are invited to come and meet with their child's teachers and check on their child's progress in class. At 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, there will be a PTSA meeting in the cafeteria to nonimate and elect officers.

The Lady Canes Softball Team has several games this week. On Tuesday, they play West Laurens at 5:00 p.m. at RHS, and on Thursday, they play Howard at Mazza Field. The JV plays at 3:45 p.m. and the Varsity plays at 5:30 p.m. Come out and support the Lady Canes!

On Thursday, the JV Football Team has a game against Southwest at 5:00 p.m. The location is to be determined. On Friday, the Varsity Football Team has a game against Peach County High at 8:00 p.m. at Peach County High School. Go Canes!
