It is with pleasure that I welcome you to Burdell-Hunt Magnet School’s website. I am proud and honored to serve as the principal of this wonderful school. In a sense, I have come home. I was raised, attended school and, lived in East Macon for most of my life. I attended J. Ellsworth Hall Elementary School, Appling Middle School, and graduated from Northeast High School in 1990. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Georgia. I have a Masters Degree in Education from Mercer University. I received a Specialist Degree in Education as well as Certification in Administration and Supervision from Georgia College and State University.

I have over 18 years of experience as an educator – all in Bibb County. I began my teaching career as an 8th grade English/Language Arts teacher at Miller Middle School. I then taught 8th Grade ELA at Weaver Middle School before becoming an Assistant Principal at Matilda Hartley Elementary School. In 2003, I became the inaugural assistant principal at the newly established Rutland Middle School.  I have a history of inspiring and shaping the minds of children.

One of my most distinguished honors was receiving National Board Certification in Early Adolescence English Language Arts in 2002. I am a proud graduate of The Administrators’ Institute Leaders’ Academy of the Bibb County Public Schools, a graduate of the GLISI Rising Star Leadership Institute for Aspiring Leaders, and a member of GLISI and The Power of 100. One of my future goals is to write children’s books.

Within the community, I am committed to working in the area of children literacy. Additionally, I enjoy the performing arts. My religious, community and civic affiliations include Swift Creek Baptist Church, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and The Junior League of Macon. I am married to Trent Allen who is also an educator and coach.

As an educator I strive for success and achievement. As the principal, I believe in making achievement the top priority by strengthening the bonds of respect, responsibility, and relationships with those around me – students, parents, teachers and community members. The staff is in a mode of study, sharing, and flexibility to learn new things, try various approaches while continually adjusting and monitoring data. I am committed to maintaining the integrity of the communicative arts program at Burdell-Hunt Magnet School. I invite parents and community members to visit our school!
