Rutland High School FCCLA Chapter Awarded $500.00

 Wal-Mart Foundation Grant!

Actively Involved in Community Service and other Projects

Rutland High School FCCLA Chapter has gotten off to another active and involved year filled with community service and other leadership projects.  Each student enrolled in a family and consumer sciences course was introduced to Family, Community and Career Leaders of America (FCCLA).  They learned that FCCLA is an integral part of classroom instruction. Posters advertising the organization and its benefits were placed around the school. Students who desired to join the organization on the State and National levels, also, paid their membership fee.

Officers were elected at the first organizational meeting.  Members attended the State FCCLA Rally which was held in Perry, Georgia. They returned highly motivated to proceed with their program of work. Some of the community service projects that the members have been involved in this school year are:

  • Participating in the PALS Program at Porter Elementary School
  • Visiting a local nursing home
  • Partnering with the BETA Club to collect items to send to members of the 48th Brigade who are serving in Iraq
  • Partnering with Jobs for Georgia Grads and FBLA to raise funds for The Ronald McDonald House and The Children’s Miracle Network
  • Recognizing the bus drivers who drive students to RHS during National Bus Safety Week with goody bags
  • Partnering with FEA by recognizing RHS’s teachers and staff with an appreciation breakfast during American Education Week
  • Members enjoyed a holiday appreciation afternoon as members who have displayed extraordinary leadership so far this year were recognized
  • Sponsored a letter writing campaign to Santa in support of Macy’s Department Store “Believe” Campaign, in which every letter written to Santa and dropped at Macy’s, the store will donate $1.00 to The Make-A-Wish Foundation.  This year FCCLA delivered 438 letters to Macy’s.  Last year 425 letters were collected and delivered. This year letters were written by students at Rutland High School, Rutland Middle School, and by children from various community groups.  Last year the letters were written by students from Rutland Middle and High Schools, Skyview and Burke Elementary Schools. The total to date of letters delivered is 853, which represents $853.00 of Macy’s one million dollars commitment each year.
  • Future plans include observing National FCCLA Week, participating in Spring Fling, FCCLA Regional and State STAR Events, and hosting the FCCLA Awards Banquet.
