Welcome to the Department of Title I

Title I is a part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). This act provides federal funds through the Georgia Department of Education to local education agencies (LEAs) and public schools. The purpose of Title I is to ensure that all children have the opportunity to obtain a high quality education and reach proficiency on challenging state academic standards and assessments.

OUR PROGRAMS:
  • TITLE I PART A –
     

    • Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and School Improvement

      • AYP is one of the cornerstones of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act. It is a measure of year-to-year student achievement on statewide assessments.

    • Parental Involvement

      • The purpose of parental involvement under Title I is to promote active engagement among local school officials and staff, education leaders, technical assistance providers, parents, parent advocacy organizations, parental involvement coordinators/ liaisons, and others working to improve student achievement and learning.

    • Public School Choice

      • Public School Choice allow parents of children enrolled in schools that receive Title I funding and that are identified for “school improvement”
        the opportunity to transfer their children to a school that has not been so identified.

    • School Wide and Targeted Assistance Programs

      • In all schools selected to receive Title I Part A funds under section 1113 (c) that are ineligible for a schoolwide program or that choose not to operate such a schoolwide program, an LEA agency serving such school may use funds received under this part only for programs that provide services to eligible children identified as having the greatest need for special assistance.

    • Supplemental Educational Services

      • Supplemental educational services include academic assistance such as tutoring, remediation and other educational interventions designed to increase the academic achievement of students in qualified schools which are provided outside of the regular school day.

  • TITLE I PART C -

    • Migratory Education Program

      • The general purpose of the MEP is to ensure that migrant children fully benefit from the same free public education provided to other children. To achieve this purpose, the MEP helps States and LEAs address the special educational needs of migrant children to better enable migrant children to succeed academically.
  • TITLE I PART D -

    • Neglected and Delinquent Educational Services

      • The purpose of Title I, Part D is to improve educational services for children and youth in local and State institutions for neglected or delinquent children and youth so that such children and youth have the opportunity to meet the same challenging State academic content standards and challenging State student academic achievement standards that all children in the State are expected to meet.

*Under Title I, local educational agencies (LEAs) are required to provide services for eligible private school students as well as eligible public school students.
