Revisions to BCSD Board Policy IFBG, Internet Acceptable Computer Use, were approved in May 2012.

Since its inception in 2001, the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) has required school districts that receive E-rate funds to implement certain internet filtering mechanism and adopt internet safety policies.  In September 2011, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a final rule, adding to the existing requirements for internet safety policies.  The regulations require that, beginning July 1, 2012, a school’s internet safety policy must provide for the education of minors about appropriate online behavior, including

  • interacting with other individuals on social networking websites and in chat rooms and
  • cyberbullying awareness and response.

In addition, the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) provides guidance for CyberSafety in schools.

Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, BCSD is implementing a CyberSafety Program in compliance with the FCC ruling.  An implementation plan and an overview of the program are available at the links below.  Information from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as well as use agreements from the GaDOE will also be used.  CyberSafety training will be provided for staff, students and parents.
