STANDARDS BASED INSTRUCTION 
 

Course Description

The goal of the Standards Based Learning Modules is to review all components associated with effective standards-based instruction and be able to know, understand, and facilitate a standards based learning environment. 

Course Objectives

  • To examine various approaches/philosophies of standards based learning
  • To develop and implement strategies that will promote deeper  student understanding in a standards based learning environment
  • To be able to use a variety of techniques and strategies for fostering a standards based learning environment
  • To explore, learn, and use instructional strategies that will develop and enhance academic achievement in a standards based learning environment
  • To develop effective lesson plans for a standards based classroom
  • To be able to work collaboratively with other educators in preparation for teaching and learning in a standards based environment
  • To be able to use a variety of formal and informal methods to monitor and assess students’ progress
  • To provide participants with the opportunity to explore, prepare and facilitate a standards based learning environment

Module II

(20 hours)

  • What does a Standards Based Learning Classroom Look Like?
  • Elements of a Standards Based Learning Classroom
    • Artifacts (graphic organizers, word wall, work stations, standards, EQs, rubrics, samples of student work, technology related products, etc.)
    • Instructional observations (strategies, differentiation, assessments, grouping, etc.)

Module III

(30 hours)

  • Modeling and using effective standards based classroom strategies
  • Modeling and using collaborative planning techniques
  • Preparing standards based lesson plans
  • Grading in a standards based classroom
  • Using standards based assessment tools
